Cell Organells Flashcards
(10 cards)
Plasma Membrane
Forms boundary of cell; controls movement of materials into/ out of cell; provides cell identification and communication.
Nucleus
Inside the nucleus is the nuclealus, which is where ribosomes are assembled.
Ribosomes
Use genetic instructions from the nucleus to produce proteins that will carry out various cell functions.
Cytosol
It houses the organelles, and many of the enzymes are required.
Mitochondria
Converts chemical energy (macromolecules) into cellular energy (ATP) in process of cellular respiration.
Chloroplasts
Uses the sun’s energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into sugars. Contains pigments of molecules that give green parts of plants their color.
Lysosomes
Contains enzymes that breakdown macromolecules, organelles, or cells for ‘recycling.’
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Proteins synthesized on rough ER will be secreted from cell or become part of plasma membrane.
Golgi Apparatus
Adds chemical groups to products of the ER for modification, identification, and transport.
Cytoskeletal Elements
Hold and move organelles (transport vesicles), and are involved in cell movement.
