Q

How do you use a light microscope?

A
  • plug in the microscope and turn on the light
  • turn the rotating nose piece so that the lowest power lens is in place
  • prepare the sample on the slide and place it on the stage
  • using the coarse focus knob raise the stage til it is at the highest point
  • while looking through the eyepiece move the coarse focus knoband bring the slide into focus
  • use the fine focus knob til the cells are focused.draw what you see
  • next, view the specimens under medium and high power

Q

What is used to see the ultrasticture ?

A

an electron microscope

20
Q

What does an electron microscope do?

A

used to magnify specimen using a beam of electrons instead of light

21
Q

Name the two types of electron microscopes and their functions.

A

transmission electron microscope allows the internal structure to be seen and a scanning electron microscope shows surfaces

22
Q

What is the protoplasm?

A

it is all the living parts of a cell

23
Q

What is the cytoplasm?

A

it is the living material outside the nucleus of a cell

Q

What is the function of the nosepiece?

A

to rotate the objective lenses into place
