Cell Study 1 Flashcards
Study cells. (16 cards)
What are the two types of transport in a cell membrane?
Active and passive.
What is active transport in a nutshell?
It uses energy. (ATP)
What is passive transport in a nutshell?
It doesn’t use energy. (No ATP)
What are the types of active transport summarized?
Exo-/endo- cytosis: Turns membrane to vesicle or turns vesicle to the membrane, that transports the material in or out, without touching the cell.
Pump channels: Forces things into crowded areas against their will. “Get over here!” - Scorpian
What are the types of passive transport summarized?
Diffusion: Materials crowd around the bi-layer, in which some are pushed in.
Facilitated Diffusion: Opening chambers allow some materials in and out.
Osmosis: Diffusion but with water
What is the “border wall” of the cell and what’s it’s function?
Membrane: The double wall protection
How do diploid cells divide?
They go through mitosis.
What are the four phases of Mitosis?
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase. (Plumber Mario is Actually Tripping) (Penguins Might Attack Turtles) (Please Murder Annoying Tables)
What happens during prophase?
The nuclear envelope dissolves and the centrioles go to anchor points, (opposite sides from each other)
What happens during metaphase?
Spindles attach to from centromeres to chromosomes to align the chromosomes.
What happens during anaphase?
The chromosomes are pulled apart into chromatids.
Mitosis ends here
What happens during telophase?
The reformation of the nuclear envolope occurs and they push apart.
(Cytokinesis
What does DNA stand for?
Deoxyribonucleic acid. (YEET the oxygen off RNA)
What are the four bases?
Adenine, Thymine, Guanine, Cytosine. (Always together/ Get close). (Allspice, thyme, garlic, cilantro)
What is meiosis?
Complicated thing + complicated thing = A whole big new mess
What is crossover?
The pickup line/ chromosomes tangle to exchange DNA
