Cell test Flashcards
(27 cards)
What is photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is the process of how plants make their own glucose to use for energy
Why is photosynthesis important?
Photosynthesis is important in maintaining the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
What makes are the 6 things that make something living?
- Cellular structure.
- Keeping the insides the same.
3.Responding to the environment. - Respiration and metabolism
- Growth and development
- Reproduction
What is the reaction that happens in chloroplasts?
Cardon dioxyde + Water+ Sunlight - Glucose + Oxygen.
What is homeostasis?
It means that living need to keep consistency in their cells. If something goes wrong it might cause death.
Where is homeostatsis acheived?
Homeostatsis is achieved in a passive way through osmosis and diffusion or through an active way.
What is osmosis?
Osmosis is the process where water molecules move across a semi-permeable membrane from an area of lower solute concentration to an area of higher solute concentration.
What is diffusion?
Diffusion is the movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration, driven by the concentration gradient, until equilibrium is reached.
What is chlorophyll?
Chlorophyll is a green pigment found in plants and alga and cyanobacteria that plays a key role in photosynthesis.
What is the function of the cell membrane?
It keeps the insides in and outsides out. It controls what goes in and out of the cell.
What is the function of the ribosome?
Makes proteins
What is the functions of the cytoplasm?
Fluid that fills the cell
What is the function of the vacuole?
It stores water and nutrients. Plants have a very large vacuole, which helps keep the shape.
What is the function of the nucleus?
It carries the genetic information and controls what happens in the cell.
What is the function of the cell wall?
The cell wall is made of a substance called cellulose which supports the cell wall.
What is the function of the mitochondria?
This is where most of the respiration reactions happens and it produces energy for the cell.
What is the function of chloroplast?
Where photosynthesis happens.
What are the three things cell theory states?
- All living things are made of cells
- Cells are the building blocks of life
- All cells come from pre-existing cells.
List three types of cells?
- Prokaryotes - single celled organisms with no uncle or membrane bound organelles
- Eukaryotes: animal cells
- Eukaryotes: Plant cells
Where do living things get energy from?
Through metabolism/respiration reactions that take place in the mitochondria.
Whit is a cellular Respiration?
It is the name of the process of producing engird for the cell.
Why do living things need energy to live?
They use energy to respond to the environment, grown, maintain themselves, heal and reproduce.
Celluar Respiration reaction:
Glucose + Oxygen - cardon dioxide + water+ energy
Where to animals get glucose from?
Food they eat
