Cell Test Flashcards
(44 cards)
Cell types
Prokaryotic, fukaryotic
Cell theory
All living things are made of cells
Prokaryotic
Non living cell
Fukaryotic
Living cells
Types of fukaryotic
Plant and living cells
Organelle
Little organ
Nucleus
Control center of the cell, contains dna
Nuclear membrane
Membrane surrounding the nucleus
Nucleolus
Small dark body in the nucleus that produces ribosomes
Chromosomes
Structures in the nucleus that contains dna. Different organisms have different numbers
Cell membrane
Outer boundary of the cell, holds everything together
Cytoplasm
Protien rich semi fluid inside the cell that surrounds the organelles
Golgi apparatus
Flattens sacs, stores, packages and secretes protien from the ER to various parts of the cell
ER
Tunnels that transport material from the nucleus throughout the cell
Ribosomes
Attached to the ER. Makes protiens, produced in the nucleus
Lysosomes
Animal cells only. Produced in Golgi apparatus. Contain digestive enzymes which break down foreign material. Can leave cell and fight bacteria
Mitochondria
Powerhouse of the cell. Has its own Dna. Glucose is burned to make atp
Centrioles
Animal cells only. Tubular structures that assist in cell reproduction
Vacuole
Fluid filled sacs that combine food, water, and wastes
Microtubules
Long structures made of protein. Gives the cell structure
Cell wall
Plant cells only. Structure surrounding the cell membrane. Made of cellulose
Middle lamella
Plant cells only. Area between cell wall and cell membrane
Pectin
Substance that bonds cell walls together
Chloroplast
Plant cells only. Small green organelle. Photosynthesis occurs here
