Cells Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is the function of the nucleus?
It contains genetic material that controls the activity of the cell.
What is the function of the mitocondria?
These are where most reactions for aerobic respiration take place.
Respiration transfers energy that the cell needs to work.
What is the function of the cytoplasm?
It is a gel like substance where most of the chemical reactions occur.
It contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions.
What is the function of the cell membrane?
It holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out of the cell.
What is the function of the ribosomes?
This is where protein synthesis occurs and protein is made in the cell.
What subcellular structures do Eukaryotes (animal cells) contain?
Nucleus
Mitochondria
Cytoplasm
Cell membrane
Ribosomes
What is the function of the rigid cell wall?
It supports and strengthens the cell.
It is made out of cellulose.
What is the function of the permanent vacuole?
It contains cell sap, a weak solution of sugar and salts.
It helps keep the structure of a plant cell.
What is the function of a chloroplast?
This is where photosynthesis occurs, this makes food for the plant.
They contain a green substance called chlorophyll, this absorbs light which is needed for photosynthesis.
What subcellular structures does a Eukaryotes (plant cell) contain?
Nucleus
Mitochondria
Cytoplasm
Cell membrane
Ribosomes
Cell wall
Permanent vacuole
Chloroplasts
What subcellular structures do prokaryotes (bacteria cells contain)?
Cell membrane
Cell wall
Plasmid
Circular strand of DNA
Cytoplasm
Flagellum
What is the difference between plant cells and animal cells?
Animal cells don’t have a:
Cell wall
Permanent vacuole
Chloroplasts
What the difference between Eukaryotes and prokaryotes?
Prokaryotes don’t have:
Chloroplasts
Nucleus
Mitochondria
