Cells Flashcards
(32 cards)
What do Animal cells have?
Nucleus, Cell Membrane, Cytoplasm, Mitochondria.
What does a Nucleus Do?
This Contains The Cells Genetic Material and is Needed to Make New Cells.
What does a Cell Membrane do?
This is a barrier around the cell and it controls what can come in and out of the cell.
What does Cytoplasm do?
This is a jelly like substance where the chemical reactions in a cell takes place.
What does a mitochondria do?
This is where respiration takes place .
What do Plant cells have?
Everything in an animal cell with Chloroplast,Cell wall and vacuole.
What does the cell wall do?
This strengthens the cell and provides support. It is made of a tough fiber called cellulose, which makes the wall rigid
What does Vacuole do?
This contains a watery liquid called cell sap. It keeps the wall firm.
What does chloroplast do?
This is where photosynthesis happens.
What are specialised cells?
They are cells that have different shapes and structures so that they are suited to their particular job
What do nerve cells do?
Carry electrical impulses around the body.W
What adaptations do nerve cells have?
They are long and thin and have connections at each end where they can join to other nerve cells
What do red blood cells do?
They transport oxygen around the body.
What adaptations do red blood cells have?
They have disc like shapes that increase their surface area.
What do sperm cells do?
They carry male genetic material.
What adaptations do sperm cells have?
They have a streamlined head and a long tail.
What do leaf cells do?
They carry out photosynthesis.
What adaptations do leaf cells have?
They are long and thin and packed with chloroplast.
What do root hair cells do?
They absorb water and nutrients from the soil.
What adaptations do root hair cells have?
They have a large surface area for absorbing water and nutrients.
What is a unicellular organism?
An organism that is made up of just one cell.
Where can amoebas be found?
In fresh water, salt water, wet soil and inside animals
What is in an amoebas?
Cell membrane, cytoplasm and a nucleus.
What do amoebas eat?
They eat algae, bacteria and plant cells.
