Cells Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
What is the structure of eukaryotic cell and their function ?
A
Cell membrane - receptors on cell for cell recognition
RER- synthesise proteins , proteins processed/folded/ transmitted in RER
Golgi apparatus - packages proteins, produces lysosomes
cell vacuole - contains cell sap store sugar and amino acids etc and maintains turgor pressure
2
Q
Difference between tissue, organ and organ system
A
Tissue is a group of specialised cells, organ is aggregation of tissue and organ system is a group of organs.
3
Q
Compare and contrast the structure of eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell (6 marks )
A
- Eukaryotic has membrane bound organelles e.g mitochondria whereas prokaryotic doesn’t
- Eukaryotic has larger (80s) ribosome in the cytoplasm whereas prokaryotic has a smaller (70s ribosome )
-In eukaryotic cell cell wall is only in plants ,algae and fungi containing cellulose or chitin whereas in prokaryotic cells it contains murein - In eukaryotic DNA is long and linear and is associated with histone protein whereas in prokaryotic it is short and circular and isn’t associated with histone proteins.
- eukaryotic larger size overall prokaryotic much smaller size
- eukaryotic has nucleus containing DNA whereas prokaryotic doesn’t have nucleus and dna is free floating
