Cells Flashcards
(25 cards)
What is a sperm cell designed to do?
Designed to Fertilise eggs
Were is the sperm cell found?
Found in the Testes
What is in the sperm head?
The head contains enzymes
Remember (Sperm cell)
Sperm is small and has a long tail that provides movement.
What lets the sperm move?
The Motor between the head and the tail.
What is the Egg (Ovum) Cell Designed to do?
To be Fertilized
Were is the Egg found?
Found in the Ovaries.
Remember (Egg (Ovum) Cell)
An egg cell is large and bulky.
Contains yolk which provides a large food store for the new cell being formed.
Does the Egg have an Nucleus?
Yes
Does the sperm cell have an Nucleus?
Yes (in the head)
Were is the Palisade Cell found?
Found in the top of a leaf
What is the Palisade Cell designed for?
Designed for Photosynthesis
Remember (Palisade Cell)
Tall and has a large surface area to absorb water and minerals.
Packed with chloroplasts to help make plant food.
What is the Ciliated Cell Designed for?
Designed to stop Lung Damage
Were are the Ciliated Cell found?
They line all the air passages in the lungs.
Remember (Ciliated Cell)
They have tiny hairs called cilia.
Hairs sweep mucus with trapped dust and bacteria back up the throat.
What is the Root Hair Cell designed for?
Designed for absorbing.
Were is the Root Hair cell found?
Found in a plant root.
Does the Root Hair cell have a cell wall?
Yes
Remember (Root Hair Cell)
Has a large surface which helps it to absorb water and minerals.
Thin cell wall makes it easy for minerals to pass through.
What is a nerve cell?
They are long
They have connections at each end
Can carry electrical signals
Their job is to carry nerve impulses to different parts of the body.
Does the nerve cell have a Nucleus?
Yes
What is a Red Blood Cell?
Designed to carry oxygen
Found in blood.
Large surface area, for oxygen to pass through.
Contains haemoglobin, which joins with oxygen.
Does a Red blood cell have a Nucleus?
No, so there is more room for the oxygen.
