Cells Flashcards
(8 cards)
What are the 3 main parts of the Cell Theory?
-All Cells come from Pre-existing Cells
-Cells are the structure and function of all living things
-All living things are made of cells
What is the order of the cell cycle?
-Interphase
-G1, S, G2
- Mitosis
- Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase,
Telophase
- Cytokinesis
- Cytoplasm Divides
What happens in Prophase?
-The nuclear membrane breaks apart
- The chromatin condenses into Chromosomes.
- The Centrioles form a star-shaped structure called the aster, and a spindle forms between them.
What happens in Metaphase?
-The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell, Along the equator
- Each chromosome attaches itself to a spindle fiber.
What happens in Anaphase?
-The Chromatids are pulled apart by the spindle and move to opposite sides of the cell
What happens in Telophase?
- Two nuclei are formed
- Spindle fibers disappear
- Chromosomes uncoil and become chromatin again
- Nucleus membrane reappears
What happens in Cytokinesis?
The Cytoplasm splits into two daughter cells.
What happens in the G1, S, and G2 phases of Interphase?
G1- Cell just being a Cell
S- Cell replicates its DNA for division
G2- The cell prepares its organelles and cellular components for division
