Cells And Microscopes Flashcards
(20 cards)
What is inside an animal cell?
Nucleus, cell membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondria and ribosomes
What are contained inside a plant cell?
Cell wall, cell membrane, ribosome, cytoplasm, mitochondria, chlorophyll and nucleus
What does the nucleus do?
The nucleus contains the genes and chromosomes which instruct the cell on what to do and is considered the powerhouse of the cell
What does the ribosome do?
The ribosomes process or synthesise proteins within the cell
What does the cell membrane do?
The cell membrane tracks and has authority over what goes in or out of the cell
What does the cell wall do?
The main function of the cell wall is to support, shape, and protect the cell
What does the vacuole do?
their function is really to handle waste products, and by handle, mean take in waste products and also get rid of waste products.
What does the cytoplasm do
It creates an area for chemical reactions to occur within the cell
What does the chlorophyll do?
Chloroplasts perform photosynthesis during the daylight hours.
What makes up chloroplasts?
Chlorophyll
What parts of the cell do the plant cell only have?
Plant cells have a cell wall, chloroplasts and a large central vacuole
What is the main function of a microscope
To observe and record things that cannot be seen with the naked eye like cells
What part of the microscope do we look through?
The eye piece lens
What do we place the thing we want to observe on?
The slide
Where do we place the slide for viewing?
The stage
What holds the slide in place whilst on the stage.
The clip
What do we call the lens that magnifies the image?
The low/high power objective lens
What do we use to get a blurry image of the specimen?
The coarse adjustment/focus wheel
What do we use to get a finer image of the specimen?
The fine adjustment/focus wheel
What do we do to get the total magnification?
Multiply the eye piece lens magnification (X10) with the power objective lens magnification
