Cells and Organelles Flashcards
(13 cards)
Ridged outer layer of a plant cell
Cell Wall
Controls what comes into and out of a cell; found in plant and animal cells
Cell Membrane
Gel-like fluid where the organelles are found
Cytoplasm
Produces the energy a cell needs to carry out its functions
Mitochondria
Uses chemicals to break down food and worn out organelles
Lysosomes
Stores food, water, wastes, and other materials
Vacuoles
Reveives proteins and materials from the ER, packages them, and distributes them
Golgi Bodies
Captures energy from the sunlight and uses it to produce food in plant cells.
Chloroplasts
Has passageways that carry proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Assembles amino acids to create proteins
Ribosomes
Control center of the cell; contains DNA
Nucleus
Found inside the nucleus and produces ribosomes
Nucleolus
Tiny strands inside the nucleus that contain the instructions for directing the cell’s functions
Chromatin
