Cells Mitosis Flashcards
(25 cards)
What is diffusion
The movement of particles from regions of higher density to regions of lower density
What is a semipermeable membrane
It only allows certain substances to pass through to the cell
What is osmosis
The diffusion of water through a semipermeable membrane
What is active transport
The movement of substances across the cell membrane, that requires the cell to use energy
What is passive transport
The movement of substances across the cell membrane, that requires the cell to use no energy
What is endocytosis
The cell comes into contact with a particle
What is exocytosis
It is large particles that must leave the cell they are packaged in vesicles
What is photosynthesis
It is the process by which plants algae and some bacteria use sunlight carbon dioxide and water to make food
What is the chemical equation for photosynthesis
c6h12o6+o2
What organelle does photosynthesis occur in
Chloroplasts
What is cellular respiration
It is the process in which cells use oxygen to produce energy from food
What is the chemical equation for cellular expiration
co2+h2o
What is the organelle that Cellular respiration occurs in
Mitochondria
What is fermentation
It is breaking down glucose to release energy without using any oxygen
In example of fermentation
Fermentation happens in your muscles and produces lactic acid which makes your muscles burn
What is interphase
It is the cell that grows, and copies organelles and chromosomes, the two copies are called chromatids
What is Mitosis
Mitosis is a process of cell division that forms to new nuclei each of which has the same number of chromosomes
What is prophase ( jumbled)
It is where the nuclear membrane dissolves and the chromosomes condense
What is metaphase (middle)
It is where the chromatids lineup in the middle of the cell
What is anaphase(separation)
Where the spindle fibers pull apart the chromatids to opposite ends of the cell
What is telophase (2 chromosomes)
It is when the nuclear membrane begins to reform in the cell is ready to become two new cells
What is cytokinesis
It is parent cells that become two daughter cells
What are Homologous chromosomes
They are similar chromosomes that pair up and make an x shape
What is a chromatid
They are two copies of cells
