Cells of nervous system Flashcards
(7 cards)
Cells of
Cerebral cortex
- Pyramidal cells
- Stellate cells
- Fusiform cells
- Horizontal cells of Cajal
- Cells of Martinotti
Pyramidal cells are present in: Cerebral cortex, Hippocampus, Amygdala
Cells of
Cerebellar cortex
- Stellate cells and basket cells (Outer molecular layer)
- Purkinje cells & Golgi cells (Purkinje cell layer)
- Granular layer (numerous small rounded cells with nuclei)
Neuroglia
Formation of Blood brain barrier
Astrocytes
FIBROUS astrocytes:
* Provide supporting framework
* Electrical insulators
* Limit spread of feetneurotransmitters
* Take up K+ ions
PROTOPLASMIC astrocytes:
* Store glycogen
* Have a phagocytic
* Take place of dead neuron
* Conduit for metabolites or raw perivascular feetmaterials
* Produce trophic substances
Neuroglia
Forms myelin sheath in CNS (brain & spinal cord) and their maintenance
Oligodendrocytes
1 Oligodendrocyte can form myelin sheath for about 60 axons in CNS
* Oligodendrocytes also Influence biochemistry of neurons
Neuroglia
Forms myelin sheath in PNS (cranial nerves, spina nerves)
Schwann cell
Each cell cover 1 single neuron.
Neuroglia
Fights infection and removes damaged neurons, cells
Microglia
Circulate CSF,absorb CSF
Ependymal cells/ependymocytes
