Cells Of The Nervous System (Tuesday) Flashcards
(28 cards)
What is the anterior part of the brain?
front
What is the posterior part of the brain?
back
What is the lateral part of the brain?
side
What is the medial part of the brain?
think of the view that splits the lobes apart
What is the dorsal part of the brain?
“look down”
What is the ventral part of the brain?
“look up the vent”
How does the connectivity work for the primary motor cortex?
signals from the left hemisphere create action on the right side and vice versa
What is the Nissl Stain’s purpose?
it identifies cell body density and layers
What is the Golgi Stain’s purpose?
it identifies dendrite density
What does the reticular theory believe?
neurons are physically linked together
What does the neuron doctrine believe?
neurons are close together, but not linked
What can the gap junction do?
it uses cytoplasm to connect neurons
What does the Law of Dynamic Polarization believe?
communication of neurons goes toward the body and away from the axons
How does the flow of neuron communication really work?
Impulses go either way
What does the cell Nucleus’ purpose?
it has DNA transcribe RNA which is then processed into mRNA which is then exported from the nucleus
What is the Ribosome’s purpose?
it constructs and assembles proteins through translation
What is the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum’s purpose?
it gives proteins the purpose of inserting into the cell membrane
What is the Golgi Apparatus’ purpose?
it tags proteins which then sends them to different locations
What is the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum’s purpose?
it folds proteins and regulates calcium
What is the Mitochondria’s purpose?
to produce ATP
What is the Cell Membrane’s purpose?
it regulates what goes in and out of the cell
What is the Cytoskeleton’s purpose?
it allows proteins to “move things along” by crossing it
What is the Axon Hillock?
it’s the part that meets the body of the neuron
What is the Axon Collateral?
the branches from the axons
