cells,organelles Flashcards
(7 cards)
Differentiate eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
Eukaryotic cells are complex and include all animal and plant cells
Prokaryotic cells are smaller and simpler e.g. bacteria
Describe the functions of these subcellular structures
A.) nucleus B.)mitochondria C.)ribosomes D.) cytoplasm
A.) Contains genetic material that controls the activity of the cell.
B.) Where respiration takes place.
C.) Involved in the translation of genetic material (contains genetic material)
D.) Gel like substance where chemical reactions take place
Name the structures that are found in a plant cell but not a animal cell
cell wall
Large vacuole
chloroplasts
Name 2 facts about bacterial cells
Can have any of these-
- They are prokaryotic
- They have no nucleus
- They have a flagellum like a sperm cell (for movement)
- Small simple structure
2 facts about Sperm cells
Any of these facts-
- Their function is to transport male’s DNA to the female egg.
- Has a haploid nucleus
- Has a mitochondria to provide with energy to swim to the unfertilised egg
- Has a long tail so it can swim the the unfertilised egg
- Stores acrosomes at the front of its head so it can digest through the membrane of the egg.
2 facts about the egg cell
Any of these facts-
- Function is to hold the female DNA
- It like the sperm cell has a haploid nucleus
- After fertilisation the egg changes its structure
- It contains nutrients to feed the embryo.
what is the cilia
Cilia is specialised for moving materials along the body.
Lines the the surface of organs
