Cells Test Flashcards
(20 cards)
What does the nucleus do?
Contains and protects DNA
What does the DNA do?
Information for making proteins
What do the ribosomes do?
Make protein
What does the Endoplasmic reticulum do?
Transports and finishes proteins and other biological molecules
What do lysosomes do?
Waste management
What does the mitochondria do?
Generates energy (ATP)
What do the vesicles do?
Cellular package containing products such as protein
What does the golgi apparatus do?
Moves protein around
What does cytoplasm do?
Space for work to be done
What does the large vacuole do?
Stores protein and water
What does the cell membrane do?
Manages what goes in and out
What is diffusion?
The process of particles from an area that is more concentrated to an area that is less concentrated
How are prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells different?
Prokaryotic cells have no nucleus and no organelles
What is osmosis?
Movement of water through a semi permeable membrane
What does a selectively permeable membrane do?
Allows some molecule to cross and not others
What is active transport?
Movement of molecules from an area of low concentration to high concentration, requires cellular energy
What is facilitated diffusion?
Proteins specific for certain molecule “help” molecules that cant cross phospholipid bilayer
What is an isotonic solution?
Equal amounts of solutes
What is a hypertonic solution?
A lot of solutes
What is a hypotonic solution?
Fewer solutes
