cells & tissues Flashcards
(27 cards)
three main parts of the cell
plasma membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus
centrosome
organize microtubules
cilia
moves fluid along a cells surface
flagella
moves an entire cell
ribosome
reads the messenger RNA sequence and translates that genetic code into a specified string of amino acids, which grow into long chains that fold to form proteins
endoplasmic reticulum
produce proteins for the rest of the cell to function
Golgi complex
modifies, sorts, packages, & transports proteins received from the rough ER
lysosome
recycle worn out cell structures
peroxisome
carrying out oxidative reactions using molecular oxygen.
proteasome
regulates proteins that control cell-cycle progression & apoptosis
mitochondrion
generates ATP by utilizing the energy released during the oxidation of the food we eat
nucleus
store the cell’s DNA and facilitate its transcription and replication
epithelial tissue: simple squamous
lines the cardiovascular & lymphatic system
epithelial tissue: simple cuboidal
covers surface of ovaries, lines lens of the eye
epithelial tissue: simple columnar
digestive canal
epithelial tissue: pseudostratified columnar
respiratory airways
epithelial tissue: stratified squamous
lines wet surfaces, mouth, esophagus, pharynx, & vagina. covers tongue
epithelial tissue: stratified cuboidal
ducts of adult sweat glands & esophageal glands, part of male urethra
areolar connective tissue
connects and surrounds different organs in the human body
adipose connective tissue
found in kidneys, heart, behind eye, around joints
reticular connective tissue
storm of liver, spleen, lymph nodes, red bone marrow, around blood vessels & muscles
dense regular connective tissue
forms tendons, most ligaments & aponeuroses
dense irregular connective tissue
generated skin & around muscles & organs
elastic connective tissue
walls of elastic arteries & trachea
