Cells unit Flashcards
(20 cards)
Cell
The smallest unit that can perform all life processes
Nucleus
Contains the cell’s DNA, city hall
Cytoplasm
fluid that the organelles are set in, lawns and parking lots
Cell Membrane
The barrier between the inside of a cell and the cells environment
Cell wall
A ridged structure that surrounds the cell membrane and provides support for the cell, found in plant cells only
Mitochondria
the site of cellar respiration allows the cells to use energy
Chloroplast
organisms in plant and algae cells in witch photosynthesis takes place, solar energy plant
Golgi complex
packages materials to be transported throughout the cells, post office
Endoplasmic reticulum
allows for the transport of cellar materials, roads and highways
Ribosome
Organisms that make proteins which are building materials for the cell, lumber yard
Lysosome
digests waste products in a cell, garbage trucks/recycles
Vacuole
Stores water in the cell, water tower
Organelle
Structures that preform specific functions within the cell
Prokaryote
Single-celled organism that doesn’t have a nucleus, includes bacteria
Eukaryote
A organism that has many cells that have DNA. They have nucleus
Tissue
A group of cells that work together to perform a function
Organ
a structure consisting of cells and tissues that preforms a function in a organism
Organ system
a group of organs that work together in the body to preform a function
Organism
Something that has many parts that function together as a individual living thing that can carry on life
Structure
An arrangement of parts to form an organ or living thing
