Q
  • OA MET
  • How do you perform this technique?
A
  • Doc has one hand under the occiput and other hand’s index and middle finger are placed on the patient’s chin beneath the lower lip
  • Flex or extend the patient thru the occiput
  • Rotate the head to the barrier through the occuput
  • Have patient activate against your resistance
  • Relax and engage next restrictive barrier
  • Repeat
  • Reasses

Q
  • When is the use of the oculocephalogyric reflex appropriate?
  • When is it not appropriate?
A
  • Very severe, acute cervical and upper body conditions when other techniques are impossible d/t severity of pain, muscle spasm, or strain
  • Contraindications:
    • Fracture
    • Dislocation
    • Severe joint instability @ treatment site

Q
  • How do you perform DIRECT MET OCULOCEPHALOGYRIC REFLEX?
A
  • Patient is supine
  • Doc sit or stand at head of table
  • Engage restrictive barrier with eye motion, while doc holds the area of SD and monitors
  • Patient relaxes by closing their eyes
  • Doc further engages restrictive barrier using head and neck
  • Continue until no new barriers are met
  • Reasses

Q
  • How do you perform a compression test?
  • What is a + test indicative of?
A
  • Axial compression of head in neutral
  • Positive test when patient has pain down the arm in the nerve root distribution
  • Indicative of nerve root compression (cervical radiculopathy)

Q
  • How do you perform a Spurling’s maneuver?
  • What is a positive test indicative of?
A
  • 3 stages:
    • Compress head in neutral
    • Compress of head in extension
    • Sidebend away from the affected side then toward the affected side and add compression
    • Positive test is indicative of nerve root compression (cervical radiculopathy)
