Match each number with the correct instrument
- Airspeed Indicator
- Attitude Indicator
- Altimeter
- Turn Coordinator
- Heading Indicator
- Vertical Speed Indicator
What is the Airspeed Indicator instrument?
Indicates the air speed (usually in knots), but really this is the speed at which the air is flowing over the airplane.
What is the Airspeed Indicator not a measurement of?
Ground Speed
One knot is equivalent to how many miles?
1.151 MPH
What is a knot and what machines are measured by it?
Knot is just another unit of speed which is like mph or kmph, except it’s equal to one nautical mile.
Speed of boats and aircrafts are generally measured in knots.
What does the Attitude Indicator depict?
The position of the airplane in relation to the horizon.
What does the Altimeter measure?
Shows aircrafts height above mean sea level (MSL)
What must the pilot do to the Altimeter BEFORE taking off?
The Pilot must be aware of the Ground elevation, to then calculate the height of the airplane above the Ground and adjust accordingly.
What does the Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI) do?
Indicates the Rate of Climb and Rate of Descent (usually in feet per minute/fpm)
What does the Heading Indicator do?
Indicates direction relation to magnetic North
What does the HI need to match?
Must be set according to the Magnetic Compass indication before takeoff
What does the Turn Coordinator do?
Shows direction and rate of turns and indicates slip and skid
What is Standard Rate Turn
A standard rate turn is defined as a 3° per second turn, which completes a 360° turn in 2 minutes.
What is slip and skid?
What is a Yaw?
