Ch. 0 Introduction Flashcards
(9 cards)
What does a reference frame consist of?
Origin O
A basis of vectors i, j, k which are orthogonal
Momentum =
mv
What is Newton’s First Law?
Every body remains at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by some external force
What is an inertial frame?
A particle has no forces acting upon it
The inertial frame is the frame of reference such that the particle moves in a straight line
What is Newton’s Second Law?
In an inertial frame, the rate of change of momentum is equal to the total force acting on a particle (F = ma)
What is Newton’s Third Law?
Action and reaction are equal and opposite
How do we denote the dimension of a quantity?
[X] = (M^a)(L^b)(T^c)
Relationship between 2 origins in 2 frames of reference with the same vectors i, j and k, and a point P
OP = OO’ + OP’
Volume of a sphere
4/3 π r^3
