Ch. 1 Flashcards
What is hsitology?
study of tissues and how they are arranged into organs
What are the 8 levels of human structure from SMALL to LARGE?
atoms > molecules > organelles > cells > tissues > organs > organ systems > organism || AMOCTOOO
What is an organ?
any anatomical structure with 2+ different tissue types | function is different from other organs | can be tiny or large
Name the 11 Organ Systems.
Integumentary | Skeletal | Muscular | Nervous | Endocrine | Lymphatic | Circulatory | Respiratory I Digestive | Urinary | Reproductive (male/female)
What are the 4 criteria for Anatomical Position?
standing erect | feet flat | arms at sides (supinated) | palms, face, eyes facing forward
What are the 3 anatomical planes?
sagittal | frontal | transverse
What is the sagittal plane?
right / left portions
What are the 2 types of sagittal planes?
Midsagittal | parasagittal
What is a midsagittal plane?
equal halves
What is parasagittal plane?
unequal portions
What is the frontal plane and another name for it?
coronal plane | anterior / posterior portions
What is the transverse plane and another name for it?
horizontal plane | superior / inferior portions
What is anterior?
towards the front of body
What is posterior?
towards the back of body
What is ventral?
anterior
What is dorsal?
posterior
