Q

“Renal venotomy for thrombectomy and kidney preservation in dogs with adrenal tumors and renal vein invasion” Chiti et.al Vet Surg 2021,

How many dogs had successful renal preservation via renal venotomy? How did they close their venotomies?

A

5/5 dogs.

5-0 Polypropylene in simple continuous pattern

Q

“Outcome in dogs undergoing adrenalectomy for small adrenal gland tumours without vascular invasion” Calvacanti et.al Vet Comp Oncology 2020, 51 dogs

What was the short term survival rate?

What percentage major complications occured?

Mortality rate laparoscopic vs open?

A

Short-term survival 92.2%.

Major complications in 6 dogs (11.3%), fatal in 4.

15% mortality when performed laparoscopically, 3% when performed as an open procedure. (Not significant)

Q

“Short-term outcome of adrenalectomy in dogs with adrenal glandtumours that did not receive pre-operative medical management” Appelgrein et.al Australian Vet Journal 2020

What was the mortality rate, major complication rate, minor complication rate and general conclusion of this study?

A

Mortality 1.5%
Major complications 1.5%
Minor complications 15%

Conclusion: The added value afforded by pre-operative treatment is questioned. With appropriate management, adrenal tumours can be removed with few peri-operative complications and low mortality

Q

“Phrenicoabdominal venotomy for tumor thrombectomy in dogs with adrenal neoplasia and suspected vena caval invasion” Mayhew et.al. Vet Surg 2018

How may dogs had successful removal of a CVC thrombus through a phrenicoabdominal venotomy?

Perioperative mortality rate?

A

7/8 dogs had successful removal of the thrombus

Peri-operative mortality in 6/8 dogs - 1 from CPA, and 1 due to bronchopneumonia and pancreatitis

Q

“Clinical safety of percutaneous ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration of adrenal gland lesions
in 19 dogs” Sumner et.al JSAP 2018

What was the overall complication rate in this study?

What complications were observed?

A

Complications occurred in 1 dog (5%)

Complication - ventricular tachycardia after aspiration in a dog with a confirmed phaeochromocytoma. If look at only dogs with phaeochromocytomas - complication rate 10%

Q

“Prevalence of adrenal gland masses as incidental findings during abdominal computed tomography in dogs: 270 cases (2013–2014)” Baum, Boston et.al JAVMA 2016

What was the overall prevalence of incidental adrenal masses?

What 2 factors were found to be significantly associated with finding an incidental adrenal mass?

A

Overall prevalence - 9.3%

Associated factors - Increasing age and CT performed for assessment of neoplasia 15.9% (also related to increasing age)
