What was the Edict of Nantes

A

Decree put in place By Henry the 4 king of France, it granted liberty of conscience and public worship to Huguenots. This was later revoked, but it helped prepare France for absolutism by bringing peace to it.

A

Countries wanted a zero sum favorable balance type of trade, only way you would do well is if you hindered your neighbors gains. Gov would control and monopolize some majors industries.

What was the palace of Versailles.

A

Louis 14 set up the patronage system at the palace in France. The palace served as a sort of lodge, as the king required that all great nobles spend at least part of the year there. It served also showed Europe how powerful France was. But most of all it allowed Louis 14 to keep an eye on all of his nobles and control their ideas. He could see if any nobles was getting out of line, this allowed him to stop power struggles before they started.

A

The rule of Louis 14 and France’s financial minister Jean Baptiste Colbert. Colbert was a strong believer in mercantilism and a favorable balence. He opposed tariffs and guilds that promoted the French to financially hurt eachother. He also started many east west trading companies. Believed that the government should have a monopoly in some areas.

No, Cardinal Rechelei served as advisor to Louis 13, he thought like machievellie and cared all about increasing France’s power and wealth. He wanted to subdue the Hugonots and he advised Louis to set up the intendant system.
