What is self-concept?
The sum of beliefs we hold about ourselves.
What is the self-serving bias? Provide an example
The tendency to take credit for success and blame external factors for failure. Example: “I passed the test because I’m smart, but I failed because the teacher was unfair.”
What is self-handicapping, and why do people do it?
Creating excuses or obstacles before failure to protect self-esteem
How do collectivist and individualist cultures differ in self-concept?
Individualist cultures emphasize personal achievements, while collectivist cultures prioritize group success
What is the looking-glass self?
The idea that we develop self-concept by seeing how others perceive us.
How does self-esteem influence behavior?
Higher self-esteem boosts confidence, while low self-esteem can lead to insecurity and avoidance
What is the difference between self-efficacy and self-esteem?
Self-efficacy is confidence in one’s ability to complete tasks, while self-esteem is overall self-worth.

The tendency to underestimate how common our positive traits are.
