CH 28.1 and 28.2 vocabulary Flashcards
Troposphere
It is the lowest layer of Earth’s atmosphere, and is also where nearly all weather conditions take place.
Temperature inversion
Is a deviation from the normal change of an atmospheric property with altitude. Normally, air temperature decreases with an increase in altitude.
Greenhouse effect
The process by which radiation from a planet’s atmosphere warms the planet’s surface to a temperature above what it would be without this atmosphere.
Jet stream
They are fast flowing, narrow, meandering air currents in the atmospheres of some planets, including Earth.
Coriolis effect
Is an internal or fictitious force that acts on objects that are in motion within a frame of reference that rotates with respect to an internal frame.
Air mass
An air mass is a volume of air defined by its temperature and water vapor content.
Weather front
Its a boundary separating air masses of several characteristics such as air density, wind, and humidity.
