ch 3 quiz #1 Flashcards
(5 cards)
cell theory
- all living things are made of cells
- cell is the fundamental unit of structure and function for living things
- cells arise from pre-existing cells
- energy flow occurs in cells
- hereditary information is passed from cell to cell
- all cells have the same basic chemical composition
main differances between prokaryote cells and eukaryote cells
prokaryote
-no nucleus
-no seperate membrane bound organelles
eukaryote
-DNA is in nucleus
-membrane bound organelles
4 things cells have in common
- contain DNA with hereditary information
- enclosed by a plasma or cell membrane (semi permeable barrier)
- contain a fluid called cytosal in cytoplasm
- have ribosomes that make proteins
what did dutrochet and dumortier discover
they discovered that cells make up plants, and that cells come from existing cells
what did schleiden and schwann discover
they discovered that all living things are made of cells, they stated this after dutrochet and dumortier stated almost the same thing, but they got more credit
