What is FORM?

A

—it is the organizing principle in music.

Basic Elements-
REPETITION-fixes material in our minds
CONTRAST-stimulates our interest/feeds our desire for change
VARIATION-form between repetition/contrast-aspects of music are altered but original is recognizable

A

A

—BINARY (A-B)= two-part
*based on statement and departure, WITHOUT a return to the opening section

—TERNARY (A-B-A)= three-part
*extends idea of statement and department by bringing back FIRST SECTION
