Ch 7 Section 1&3 Flashcards
(22 cards)
Basic unit of structure and organization of all living organisms
Cell
States that organisms are made of one for more cells, cells are the basic unit of life, all cells come from other cells
Cell theory
Flexible selectively permeable boundary that helps control what enters and leaves the cell
Plasma membrane AKA cell membrane
Unicellular organism with membrane Bound nucleus and organelles; generally larger and more complex than the prokaryotic cell
Eukaryotic cell
Center of Adam; contains protons and neutrons. eukaryotic cells, the central membrane bound organelle, that manages cellular functions and contains DNA
Nucleus
Specialized internal cellular structure that carries out specific cell functions and protein synthesis and energy transformation
Organelle
Microscopic unicellular organism without a nucleus or other membrane-bound organelles
Prokaryotic cells
Semi fluid material inside the cell plasma membrane
Cytoplasm
Supporting network of protein fibers that provide a framework for the cell within the cytoplasm
Cytoskeleton
Sight of ribosome production with the nucleus of eukaryotic cells
Nucleolus
Simple cell organelle that helps manufacture proteins
Ribosome
Highly folded membrane system in the eukaryotic cell that is the site for protein and lipid synthesis
Endoplasmic reticulum
Flatten stack of tubular membranes that modifies, sorts, packages proteins into vessels and transports them into other organelles or in and out of the cell
Golgi
Membrane-bound vessel for temporary food storage of materials such as food, enzymes, and waste
Vacuole
Organelle that plays a role in the cell division and made of microtubules
Centriole
Vessels that use enzymes to Digest excess or worn out cellular substances
Lysosome
Double membrane organelle that captures light energy and converts it into chemical energy through photosynthesis
Chloroplast
Small organelles find found inside the cytoplasm
Mitochondrion
Implants the rigid barrier that surrounds the outside of the plasma membrane, is made of cellulose, provides support and protection to the cell
Cell wall
Short hair like projection that functions in cell movement
Cilium
