Remedy
Order by court/trib designed to address a civil wrong or breach + legal solution for plaintiff for breach of law by def
Damages
Amount of money awarded by courts to compensate the plaintiff for loss or injury caused by the wrongful acts of the def
Injunctions
Court order requiring def to do or not to do something - designed to prevent/restrict a person from doing harm/further harm or to rectify some wrong
Compensatory Damages
Amount of money awarded to a plaintiff for harm/injury/other loss suffered
Special Damages
Damages that compensate plaint for losses that are easily quantifiable with precise monetary value
General Damages
Damages that compensate plaintiff for losses not easily quantifiable calculated by court based on evidence
Aggravated Damages
Damages awarded when court believes plaintiff suffered humiliation, embarrassment or insult from def’s conduct
Loss of Amenity
Removal of a person’s ability to enjoy or benefit from something they used to have
Exemplary Damages
Very large amount of money awarded to show strong disapproval of the def’s conduct
aka. punitive damages
Nominal Damages
Small amount of money awarded to confirm that a plaint’s rights have been infringed even though losses not substantial
Contemptuous Damages
Very small amount of money awarded by court to show that even though plaint’s claim succeeded legally, court disapproves of it in moral terms
Restrictive Injunction
Order that someone stop doing something that is harming or will harm plaintiff that is usually allowed

Mandatory Injunction
Order requiring someone to do something or take active steps to prevent harm/further harm or rectify some wrong
