What was the Fredonian Rebellion?
Edwards and his supporters declared independence from Mexico and the land near Nacogdoches became the Fredonian Republic. This confirmed the fear of the Mexican officials that Americans were trying to take Texas.
What was the Mier y Teran Report?
Mier y Teran was sent to Texas to inspect settlements and report back. He recommended that the Government place more troops in Texas, attract more Mexican settlers to Texas, and increase trade between Mexico and Texas.
What was the Law of April 6th?
- Immigrants from the U.S. are banned
- Empresario contracts that aren’t completed are canceled
- Mexican and European immigration is encouraged
- Outlawed slavery in Texas
- Added more Mexican soldiers/forts in Texas
- Added duties to ALL foreign goods entering Texas
What are Centralists?
Centralists came to power in 1829 and were more strict on colonists. They wanted the central government to have more control. EX: Law of April 6, 1830
What are Federalists?
Federalists came to power in the 1820s and left the colonists alone. They wanted the states to have more control. EX: Constitution of 1824
Who was Stephen F. Austin?
Known as the Father of Texas.
What were the Turtle Bayou Resolutions?
They pledged their allegiance to Mexican Federalists, said their actions were against Bradburn, not Mexico, and stated their loyalty to Santa Anna.
What was the Battle of Velasco?
John Austin got a cannon, but Ugartechea tried to stop him and a fight broke out. Urgartechea later surrendered.
Who was Santa Anna?
The people elected him as Mexico’s new president but he later became a dictator.
What was the Convention of 1833?
The Texians wanted to see 3 changes in the Mexican government. 1. Resume U.S. immigration
2. Texas to be exempt from import taxes
3. Separate statehood for Texas

A strong decision to not do something.

To take back a law that isn’t popular among the people.

An official order stated by an authority.

Goods transported from another country to sell.

Someone sent to represent an authority.
What is a dictator?
Someone who rules with force.
What is a duty?
A tax put on an imported good.
What is a skirmish?
A small, unplanned fight between two small groups.
What is a campaign?
A process to achieve a certain goal.
What is a parley?
A discussion between two enemies during a time of conflict.
What is a seige?
Where people surround a building in hopes of capturing it and making the people give it up.
What is a veto?
The act of rejecting a suggestion so it doesn’t become a law.
What is an ad interim?
To serve temporarily.
