(CH1) Elements of the immune system and their role in defense & (CH2) Innate immunity: the immediate response to infection Flashcards
By what component is the immune system form by?
The immune system is formed by mainly three component: barriers, immune-cells and the competent system.
Barriers:
The barriers are the first line of innate defence, since they have not developed after an adaptation to the environment. They are both epithelial tissue, and both covers some parts of the body: the first one is the skin, which covers the external part of the body; the second one are the mucosal surfaces, which line all internal cavities (respiratory and gastro-intestinal)
How is the immune system divided and what is the difference between the subgroups?
The immune system is divided in two subgroups: innate IS and adaptive IS.
What are the immune cells? What is their function?
What is the lymphatic system? By what parts is it formed?
What is the difference between T-cells and B-cells?
What is the complement system?
How can the complement system be activated?
