Culture
The ways of thinking the ways of acting and the material objects that together form a way of life
Non Material culture
The ideas created by members of a society

Anything that carries a particular meaning recognized by people who share a culture
Cultural transmission
The process by which one generation passes culture to the next
Values
Culturally defined standards that people use to decide what is desirable good and beautiful that serve as broad guidelines for social living
Beliefs
Specific thoughts or ideas that people hold to be true
Norms
Rules and expectations by which a society guides the behavior of its members
Mores
Norms that are widely observed and have great moral significance
Folkways
Norms for routine or casual interaction
Social control
Attempts by society to control people’s thoughts and behavior
Subculture
Cultural patterns that set apart some segment of a sporty
Counterculture
Cultural patterns that strongly oppose those widely accepted within a a society
Ethnocentrism
Practice of judging a culture by the standards of ones own
Diefference between culture nation and society
Culture refers to the traits of a population’s behavior, values, practices, beliefs and religion, while society is the environment or community that surrounds an individual. Nation is the historical society that that based on common territory and language

Social interaction
The process by which people act and react in relation to others
Ascribed status and achieved status
Ascribed is from birth or involuntarily achieved is social position a person takes from hard work voluntarily
Role
Behavior expected of a person of certain status
Social construction of reality
The process by which people creatively shape reality through social interaction

Situations that are defined as real are real in their consequences

The study of the way people makes sense of their everyday surroundings
