How did Egyptians make papyrus
They pressed reeds together and pounded them into sheets
Why were hieroglyphics so difficult to read?
- used over 600 symbols
- each symbol represented 1 or more sounds
- writing was flexible (written ⬆️⬇️⬅️➡️)
What was the Rosetta Stone and why was it so important?
a huge stone slab inscribed with hieroglyphics.
Important because it allowed historians to be able to read hieroglyphics

- rows of stone sphinxes
- entrance for temple has a huge, thick gate
- on either side of the entrance might stand obelisk

Why is Egyptian art unique?
- people’s heads & legs are always seen from the sides but the upper body is seen straight on
- people aren’t always painted the same size, Pharohs & other nobles appear much larger
