Environmental Ethics
What are the right/wrong ways of acting toward the non-human world?

Humans should control nature and use it how they wish
Leopold’s Land Ethic
Argues that something is right f it promotes healthy ecosystem functioning, and wrong when it doesn’t
Ecocentrism
Ecological concerns should come before human concerns
Ecology
The study of the interactions between organisms and their environment
Moral Extensionism
The expansion of ethics beyond humans to land, plants, animals, etc.
Intrinsic Value
Seeking to eliminate symptoms rather than the causes
Utilitarian
Someone who believes that actions are right if they benefit the majority
Antropocentrism
The belief that humans alone posses intrinsic value
Conservation
Resources can be used as long as they are managed for “sustained yield”
