• The order to execute the Italians is given to Weber, who tries to refuse it but is informed that disobeying an order is punished by death
• When the Italian soldiers are being shot, Carlo protects Corelli’s body with his own, and when Weber finds that Corelli is alive under Carlo’s body, he lets him live
