Channels Flashcards
(26 cards)
Jing
- Channel or Meridian
- Tree Trunk or main branches of channel
- Run longitudinally thru body at relatively deep level connecting w/internal zangfu
- Includes: 12 primary channels, 8 extraordinary channels, 12 divergent channels
Luo
- Attach or a net
- Finer branches of the channel network which are more superficial and interconnect the trunk and main branches, the connective tissues and cutaneous regions.
- 15 Luo-connecting channels (12 primary, Conception/Governing vessels and great luo-connecting of Spleen channel.
Functions of Channels
- -Transport Qi & Blood thru-out body & rendering it whole.
- All sense organs, organs, tissues are nourished, energized and warmed by Qi & Blood circulating thru channel network
- Zangfu (roots of channel), Channels (stems), Body Tissue/Sense organs (flowers) - Protect the body - entire channel network serves as a series of barriers to prevent deeper penetration of pathogenic factors from the exterior.
- Responding to dysfunction in body
- Disease in channels (impaired flow of Qi & Blood) including injury, attack by pathogenic wind and cold, prolonged exposure to wind-cold-damp, over-use of part of body.
- Disease of Zangfu reflecting onto channels
ex. stasis of Heart blood can give rise to pain along the arm and throat.
- Disease transmitting via the channels. Ex. Heart fire can transmit to Small Intestines.
- Visibly showing disease in channel - Channels serve to transmit Qi to diseased area, regulating via acu pts stimulation.
