Chap 1.1 Flashcards
Atom meaning?
Smallest part of an element that has properties of the element.
Term element mean? example
They are chemically the simplest substance, that’s why they cant be broken down using chemical reaction.
Term ion meaning? example
Consists of one or more atoms joined together and having a positive and a negative charge.
Term Molecule meaning? example
Contains two or more atoms of same element.
Term compound meaning? example
These contains atoms of two or more different elements.

Relative molecular/formula mass
the sum of the relative atomic masses of all the atoms present in the formula of a compound.
(mass of compound)
Molar mass and formula
~the mass of one mole of a substance
~it has the same numerical value as the relative mass
~molar mass= mass/amount in mo
relative molecular/formula mass
the relative atomic mass of an element is the average mass of one atom of the element relative to 1/12th the mass of one atom of carbon-12.
formula; mean mass of an atom of an element divided by 1/12th of the mass of an C-12.
