Q

How is hybridization determined (i.e. how do you know if there is sp, sp^2, or sp^3 hybridization)?

A

You simply count the regions of high electron density. A lone pair, a single bond, a double bond, and a triple bond, all count as ONE region of high electron density. REMEMBER that resonance alters this rule. Draw the hybrid before determining hybridization
