Definition of psychology
study of behavior and mental process
Goals of psychological science
describe behavior, predict behavior, explain behavior, and control and change behavior
what is critical thinking?
asking questions and evaluating the evidence
what is curious?
the desire to understand what you know that you do not.

see from someone else perspective
what requires for you to have a psychological fram of mind ?

what is biological approach?
emotions have physical basis in the brain or physical cause of behavior

emphasis on the unconscious desires and conflicts of behavior

self concept and self esteem ( how you feel and think about your self

understand the social/cultural context in which the behavior occurs

what is operationalized variable?
clearly defined so that it can be mesasured
whats an example of operationalized variable?
safe driving – following turn signals-following speed limit- not always driving over the speed limit-keeping eyes on road hands on the wheel- no texting and driving- wear seat belt)
what are theories open to ?
theories are open to revision, other researcher might test the theories by replicating the study
what are the types of descriptive researches?
case study, surveys, correlation research
what is survey?
‘social desirability bias
what is case study?
an in depth look at a single individual or few participants
what is corrlations?
doesnt not predict caution
what is experimental research?
determines a causal relationship
what are the two experimental research variables?
