Emergent properties
Due to arrangement and interactions as parts as complexity increases.
Eukaryotic cell
Subdivided by internal membranes into various membrane enclosed organelles. Largest organelle is the nucleus.
DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid. Double helix. Substance of genes.
Gene expression
The information in a gene directs the production of a cellular product.
Genome
The “library” of genetic instructions that an organism inherits.
Negative feedback
Most common. The accumulation of a product will slow or halt the process.
Positive feedback
The accumulation of a product will speed up a process.
Three domains
Bacteria, archaea, and eukarya.
Natural selection
The natural environment “selects” certain, more favorable traits.
Inductive reasoning
Derive generalizations from many specific observations.
Deductive reasoning
From the general to the specific.
