What is psychological assessment
Gathering and integration of psychology-related data for the purpose of making a psychological evaluation that is accomplished through the use of tools such as interviews, case studies, tests, behavioral observations
What is psychological testing
Process of measuring psychology-related variables by the means of procedures or devices designed to obtain a sample of behaviors
What are the types of assessments
Educational assessment, retrospective assessment, remote assessment, ecological momentary assessment, collaborative psychological assessment, therapeutic psychological assessment, dynamic assessment
What is educational assessment
Use of test and other tools to evaluate the abilities and skills relevant to the success or failure in school or pre school context
What is retrospective assessment
Use of evaluative tools to draw conclusions about psychological aspects of a person as they existed at some time prior to the assessment
what is remote assessment
Use of tools of psychological assessment to gather data and draw conclusions about a subject who is not in physical proximity to the person or people conducting the evaluation
What is ecological momentary assessment. (EMA)
an “in the moment” evaluation of specific problems and related cognitive and behavioural variables at the exact time and place that they occur.
What is collaborative psychological assessment
A process of assessment where the assessor and the assessee works as partners from initial contact through final feedback
What is therapeutic psychological assessment
A collaborative approach wherein the discovery of therapeutic insights about oneselves are encouraged and actively promoted by the assessor throughout the process of assessment
What is dynamic assessment
An interactive approach to psychological assessment usually follows a model (1) evaluation (2)intervention of some sort (3)evaluation
What is the process of assessment
(1) referral for assessment from source such as school psychologist, parents, teacher
(2) assessor may meet with assessee to clarify reason for referral
(3) selection of instruments or procedures to be employed
What is a psychological test?
Device or procedure designed to measure variables related to psychology. It involves the analysis of the sample of behavior.
What are the differences in tools due to variables?
- Context: different test developers might have different definitions of the variable to be measured, hence different tests are created.
- Format: Form in which the test is administered, structure of evaluative tools
- Administrative procedures: how is the test conducted?
- Scoring: The process of assigning evaluative codes or statements to performances. the interpretation of scoring is different.
- Psychometric soundness: the technical quality of a test or tool of assessment
- Psychometric: science of psychological measurement
- Utility: how useful a test or assessment technique is for a particular purpose.
What is an interview?
A method of gathering information through direct communication involving reciprocal exchange.
What is motivational interviewing?
A therapeutic dialogue that combines person centered listening skills like openness and empathy with the use of cognition altering skills to positively affect motivation
What is case history data?
Archival preserved information like newspapers, records, transcripts.
