What does Organisational Behaviour mean?
The study of social structures in organisations
Positivism?
A perspective that only uses logically verified knowledge thus rejecting theism
What is organisational efficiency?
A debatable topic due to different stakeholders defining “effective.” Includes qualitative and quantitative methods.
What is the system of an organisational dilemma?
Performance concern > Rules that breakdown tasks into simpler monotonous jobs > Improves efficiency by simplifying task of management
*This clash of efficiency and individual personal goals create dilemma
Why are organisations multi-disciplinary and not interdisciplinary?
Because it draws from different forms of kwldge. but doesn’t merge those knowledge areas
What does management mean?
Process of making, controlling and changing organisation, its’ structure and resources, to achieve collective goals
Organisational Dilemma?
When individual desires clash w collective organisational goals. The dilemma is to reduce tension between the two.

What are the goals in an organisation?
Organisations don’t have goals, people do. Collective goals from individuals make-up the collective organisational goal.
Validity?
Officially acceptable
What is knowledge?
The sum of what is known
4 main reasons for why organisational behaviour should NOT be studied with only a managerial perspective?
- Power Inequality: if study was only managerial it would be unchallenging and uncritical for the way they think to make decisions.
- Fashion Victim: Managers only think of what’s in and fails to learn from past trends
- Agenda: Unfavourable agenda for other groups except manager
- Many stakeholders: Management is only 1 stake in the org. Other views are important as well
How are organisations political systems?
Some people have more power and there is a vertical hierarchy of authority
What is normative/prescriptive knowledge?
Values, opinions, judgements that cannot be tested
Theory?
A proposition attempting to explain something
What does empirical mean?
knowledge based on observations and experience
Operational definition?
Methods for quantifying variables
Hypothesis?
An untested explanation of something, made just before the actual investigation
