Culture
The pattern of though, speech, behavior, & social values passed from one generation to the next in a given society through art, music, literature, customs, and tradition.
Consumerism
the attitude that acquiring unlimited material possessions is the key to fulfillment
Individualism
the “look out for yourself” answer to life’s longings.
Immediate Gratification
wanting our needs to be met right now. - not tomorrow - and not in a few years.
Sexual permissiveness
the impulse to engage in sexual activity in a way that is recreational rather than meaningful
Technological fixes
ways in which our culture encourages us to believe that technology alone can solve all problems
Effective criticism
The ability to question what our culture presents as true
worldview
the way we see the world around us ; it influences now we experience life

careful thought or meditation
metaphor
means of expression which describes, by comparison with something else, a trait or characteristic of a person or thing
faith
a combination of trust and belief, the conviction to accept as true that which cannot be proven

Atheist
someone who does not believe in God
Agnostic
someone who is not sure about God’s existence
Revelation
God’s self-disclosure to human beings ; God is revealed in individual experience, events in history, in sacred writings, in traditions. (church teaching)
Doctrine
Church teaching that can change and develop overtime (priests can’t get married)
Dogma
Church teaching which never changes (Jesus is Human & Divine)
Signs of God’s Existence
in Human Reason (from experience of the world and our experience of our humanity), in the world’s belief in Sacred Mystery, in the experience of being loved and in the faith of our loved ones
Religion
the attempt by a community to express a shared faith in God through ritual, sacred writings, a moral code, ad belief statements.

Church teaching that non-Christmas will be saved because they can know God by virtue of their humanity
