(23 cards)
Regular Polygon
A polygon that is equilateral and equiangular
Polygon
A closed figure formed by connecting segments
Convex
A polygon if the sides when extended don’t cross through the interior of the polygon
Concave
A polygon if the sides when extended cross through the interior of the polygon
Thm 10-1 Interior Angle Sum Thm
If a convex polygon has n sides then the sum of the measure of its interior angles in (n-2)180
Thm 10-2 Exterior Angle Thm
In any convex polygon the sum of the measure of the exterior angles one at each vertex is 360
Postulate 10-1 Area Postulate
For any polygon and a given unit of measure there is a unique number A called the measure of the area of the polygon
Composite Figure
A figure made up of more than one shape
Postulate 10-3 Area Addition Postulate
The area of a given polygon equals the sum of the area of the non overlapping polygons that form the given polygon
Thm 10-3 Area of a Triangle
The area of a triangle is found by the formula A=bh/2 where b is the base and h is the height
Thm 10-4 Area of a Trapezoid
The area of a trapezoid is found by the formula A=(b1+b2)(h)/2 where b1 and b2 is the bases and h is the height
Center
Of a regular polygon is a point in the interior that is equidistant from all vertices
Apothem
Is a segment drawn from the center that is perpendicular to a side of the regular polygon
Thm 10-5 Area of a regular polygon
The area of a regular polygon is formed by the formula A=aP/2 where a is the apothem and P is the perimeter
Symmetry
Is an exact reflection of a figure on opposite sides of a dividing line or plane
Line of symmetry
Is the line that divides a figure into 2 congruent portions
Line symmetry
If a figure has a line of symmetry
Rotational symmetry
Any figure that can be turned or rotated less than 360 degrees about a fixed point so that the figure looks exactly as it does in its original position
Tessellations
Tiled patterns created by repeating figures to fill a plane without gaps or overlaps
Regular Tessellations
When only one type of regular polygon is used to form a pattern
Semi-regular Tessellations
If 2 or more regular polygons are used in the same order at every vertex
Polygon Region
Any polygon and its interior
Irregular Figure
Is not a polygon and if cannot be made from combinations of polygons
