Q

landform of erosion bays and headlands

A

coasts are rarely worn back evenly because some rocks are harder and more resistant to the erosion this is known as differential erosion

the more resistant rock stands out as a headland and the softer rock retreats to form a bay

most erosion is caused by hydraulic action but it can also be caused by abrasion and carbonation

Q

features of deposition sandspits

A

a sandspit is a long ridge of sand or shingle that extends into the sea
it occurs at a point when the the coastline has a sharp change in direction the sediments are carried to an area of shallow, sheltered water and longshore drift is interrupted.
the sediments are dropped on the seabed and build up to sea level to make the spit
constructive waves build a beach on its seaward side while longshore drift continues to elongate it.

the end of the spit may be pushed inwards by wave refraction to cause a recurved spit
