Chapter 12 Vocab Flashcards
(20 cards)
What is an altitude?
The segment from the vertex that is perpendicular to the base.
What is an axis?
The segment of endpoints.
What is a composite solid?
A solid that is made up of two or more solids.
What are congruent solids?
Solids that have exactly the same shape and the same size.
What is a cross section?
The intersection of a solid and a plane.
What is an edge?
The line segments where the faces intersect.
What is a face?
The flat surface on a polyhedron; in the shape of a polygon.
What is lateral area?
The sum of the area of the lateral faces.
What is a lateral face?
Faces that are not bases.
What is an oblique cone?
A cone where the axis is not the altitude.
What is an oblique cylinder?
A cylinder whose sides are inclined rather than parallel to their bases.
What is an oblique prism?
A prism where the lateral faces are not aligned in one direction to its base.
What is a regular pyramid?
A pyramid where the base is a regular polygon and the altitude has an endpoint at the center of the base.
What is a right cone?
A cone where the axis is also the altitude.
What is a right cylinder?
A cylinder where the axis is also the altitude (height) of the cylinder.
What is a right prism?
A prism where the angles between the base and the sides are right angles.
What are similar solids?
Solids that have exactly the same shape but not necessarily the same size.
What is slant height?
The height of each lateral face.
What is a vertex?
The point where three or more edges meet.
What is volume?
The amount of space that a three-dimensional figure encloses.
