Ruled from 1520-1566 and the Ottoman Empire reached its height under him.
Shia
Muslims who thought that only Muhammads’s descendants could become caliphs.
Sunni
Didn’t think caliphs had to be related to Muhammad.
Ibn Battutah
The explorer that traveled to Africa, India, China, and Spain in the 1320’s.

Spiritual issues leading to a movement called Sufism.
