Chapter 13 Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
Genetic code
A
The instructions contained in a gene that tell a cell how to make a specific protein
2
Q
Amino acid code
A
Either 1 letter or 3. Glycine → gly
3
Q
What are the impacts of the redundancy of the genetic code?
A
Some errors in the genetic code cause only a silent mutation or an error that would not affect the protein
4
Q
How does translation happen?
A
Takes place on ribosomes in the cell cytoplasm, where mRNA is read and translated into the string of amino add chains that make up the synthesized protein.
5
Q
What is third base wobble?
A
Refers to the 3rd nucleotide in a codon
